About

Nice to meet you!

My name is Whitney John and I’m a painter, printmaker, and artistic adventurer based in Raleigh, NC. My craft connects to my sense of self, my community, and my spirituality in a way that pushes me to continuously grow and develop. I care deeply about the things that link people together and the stories that reveal who we are, and it’s those sort of emotional themes that I try to incorporate into my work. I’ve recently been more inspired by natural subjects (birds in particular) and I’m excited to see where this new phase takes me.

After getting my Bachelor’s in Fine Art with a focus in painting from Southern Virginia University, I had the opportunity to explore many artistic paths. I travelled to Italy with my mentor to work on a public art installation, I was a studio assistant at a summer art camp in Michigan, I was the artist in residence at the Writ and Vision Gallery in Provo, UT, I was a mural artist for a tourist destination in Ecuador, I was at a gallery in my home town, and now I work at a local arts center while creating and selling my work professionally.

Currently I work in a pottery studio in my community art center, spend time in my in-home studio, and sell work online and at local markets. I love making art on my own, working one on one with people for commission, and collaborating on public art pieces for my community. When I’m not painting, I’m walking around a park, roller skating, hanging out with my favorite people, or trying to finish Tears of the Kingdom before my little brother.
